Amy's Story

My husband and I were actively trying to have a baby for almost 3 years.

I was overweight and wasnt ovulating due to PCOS. I tried to lose weight on my own but couldnt do it, I just gave in and didnt have the strength. I decided to get a lapband, with the main motivation to become healthy and have a better chance to have a healthy pregnancy. I had my lapband done and worked hard exercising daily and eating right, i lost 40kg in 7 months. It was hard work but worth every single kilo that came off.

During this time of weight loss we were on clomid 150mg days 5-9, month after month AF would arrive and I would become disheartened and lose hope again and again. My husband works on the oil rigs so not only did we have fertility issues, we had to fight against his work schedule and not being home around ovulation. But we knew we had to keep trying and hope that it would work. It was recommended that I stay on clomid for 6 months and if it didnt give us success we would consult the fertility specialist after the weight loss to discuss further options.

On my last month of clomid I had an appointment with my fertility specialist, she said that clomid wasn't going to work for us if it hadn't already and we were also on a high dose which would suggest that it wasn't right for us. We decided that we were going to attempt IUI once AF arrived for that cycle. AF was due 5 days after my appointment so i was really looking forward to finally giving IUI a shot as we had been knocked back for this and told to lose weight 12 months before hand.

That weekend I decided to take a pregnancy test as my period was due in 2 days, something caused me to do it. I didnt obsess that month and the job my husband should have been on was cancelled so he was home over ovulation which wasnt supposed to be. We didnt really think to much about it, and didnt pay alot of attention to charting or OPK's that month. I did a test on the digital test and got a PREGNANT result... I just stood still, absolutely startled and looking for the NOT next to PREGNANT! I had seen it that many times that I was normal for me. My husband had dropped into the shop so wasnt home, i went out the front to wait for him with my test. I cried and cried and was shaking. He pulled up in his car and i was crying, he was terrified that something bad had happened. I just handed him the test and I will never forget the smile that came across his face. He was thrilled!! We did an early pregnancy test that afternoon and got 2 nice lines. I then got bloods done and my HCG was increasing! At 6 weeks 4 days I got so see my teenie little baby for the first time with a lovely strong little flickering heartbeat! It was our little miracle!!

I didnt have morning sickness until week 7, and still have it occasionally. But embraced it thinking it was reassuring me that everything was ok. At 16 weeks our OBGYN told us we were having a little girl, it was such an empowering and amazing moment to experience. A little girl, how amazing. I have had some blood pressure issues which i was put in hospital for at 21 weeks, but it has since settled thankfully. Other than that being pregnant has been amazing, feeling our baby kick and move is just so beautiful!

I'm now 29 weeks and starting to stop worrying and getting more and more excited that we're going to meet this special little girl so soon!!
